Neak Pean and Ta Som

Neak Pean, the 'coiled serpents' is a Buddhist temple set in a man made pond. During the dry season, there is no water in the pond. During the rainy season, the Khmers came to Neak Pean to take the waters, symbolically those of the lake at the top of the universe. Ta Som, the 'ancestor som' has not been restored. It is a quiet temple and the huge ficus tree on the east gopura offers a dramatic example of nature and art entwined.
